Calculate the total Power radiated by the Sun?

Assume the solar radiation incident on Earth is 1350 W/m2 (at the top of Earth’s atmosphere). Calculate the total power radiated by the Sun, taking the average separation between Earth and the Sun to be 1.49*10^11 m.

The cool part about this is you don’t even need to know the size of the earth to figure this out.

The surface area of a ball with the radius at earth’s orbit would be

4 * pi * R^2

where R is your given separation between the Earth and Sun

The total radiated power going through the surface of that ball is simply that surface area times the power per unit area, 1350 W/m^2 in your case.

Your answer should be in the ballpark of 3.8 or 3.9 * 10^26 W
